The Binary Truth Of Things

May 1, 2025

How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg. Adapted, Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865) (Note 1)

In our pagan (post Judeo-Christian) world, truth is not a value. For example, the belief that there are more than two genders. Saying there are more does not make it so. Saying there is your truth and my truth does not make it so.

The Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God. It is revealed and objective truth from the Creator of all things. It reveals that truth is binary. Good and evil. Righteousness and sin. Male and female. It follows that subjective belief (your truth, my truth) that doesn’t align with the Word of God is sin.

The Revealed Truth of God’s Word also tells us that the wages of sin is death (Note 2). Death is the ultimate binary proposition. Heaven or hell. When we die there are two destinations for our soul. The saved unto the resurrection of eternal life and the lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation.

Note 1: Lincoln actually used the example of a calf’s tail. Dog or calf, the truth is still four legs.

Note 2: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 ESV
