In August 2018, sports journal The Athletic reported that Mike Scioscia, the longest-tenured manager in baseball, was expected to end his 19 year career with the Angels in October, 2018. The next day Scioscia strongly dismissed the report, stating that he still loves what he’s doing. Scioscia said he had “no idea” where the report originated. “There’s always chatter out there. That’s it. Nothing’s changed. The only word I have is poppycock. That’s all it is.”

Scioscia ended his career as manager of the Angels on September 30, 2018.
