We Have Met The Enemy

Aug 8, 2025

Give us help against the enemy, for deliverance by man is worthless. Psalm 108:12 NASB

The comic strip character Pogo is famous for his observation summarizing mankind’s tendency to create his own problems: “We have met the enemy and he is us.” (Note 1) (Note 2)

Are you your own worst enemy? If you have a sneaking suspicion, take it to God in prayer. Today.

Note 1: The Pogo comic strip was created by Walt Kelly (1913 – 1973) and ran between 1948 and 1975.

Note 2: Pogo’s expression is not to be confused with the well known quotation: “We have met the enemy and they are ours.” This line originated in a letter reporting defeat of the British Navy in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. The letter was written by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (1785 – 1819) to Major General William Henry Harrison (1773 – 1841), who went on to be the 9th President of the United States.
