There are many noteworthy phrases in the Word of God; “so that,” “but God,” “fear not,” “this is a trustworthy saying.”
We are beginning a series on the Biblical concept expressed by the phrase “so that.” So that is a subordinating conjunction that introduces a clause of purpose or result, often indicating an action taken with a specific goal in mind. This series explores the so that of the providence of God.
So that is the story of a Christian’s life. God did this so that honor and glory would be brought to Him from what followed. This includes painful things so that I would grow and move along the sanctification continuum and bring honor and glory to Him. And good things. God caused us to meet, fall in love, and get married so that our relationship and family would bring joy to us and, through its example, honor and glory to Him.
