When things were quiet and life was easy, I said in pride, “Nothing can shake me.” I thought I was as strong as an ox. As immovable as a mountain; But then I was beset. And I came to understand my folly. And I cried out to You for help. I pleaded for Your compassion. And in Your hesed faithfulness (Note1) You mended the shattered pieces of my life. Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30, Paraphrase

If our watch is out of order, we take it to the jeweler. If our bodies or souls are in an evil plight, let us turn to the Good Physician, He who created them, and who has unfailing skill to put them right. If we must have a physician, let it be so. But let us go to our God first of all. And remember that there is no power to heal in medicine of itself. The healing energy must flow from the divine hand. As for our spiritual diseases, nothing can heal those evils but the touch of the Lord Jesus Christ. If we but touch the hem of His garment, we shall be made whole. Adapted, Spurgeon and the Psalms

I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2 ESV

Note 1: Hesed (Hebrew), the compulsion to give and to love without limit those who have no merit. An expression of compassion, mercy, faithfulness, and love bound by a free-willed decision and not by obligation. Hesed is a defining characteristic of God. It is linked to His compassion and graciousness. It is expressed in His willingness to forgive wrongdoing and to take upon Himself the sin, rebellion, and wrongdoing of His people. As an expression of His lovingkindness, God allows His people to experience the consequences of their sin. Even this is an expression of His hesed. As a result of the great confidence we can have in this aspect of His revealed nature, we can approach God boldly and without fear. He is hesed kind and loving to His bondservants as well as to the ungrateful and wicked.
