God regenerates us not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. Titus 3:5-8a NKJV

When we placed our faith in Christ and were born again through the Holy Spirit, He made us into a new creation with new desires and new cravings. The Holy Spirit is also God’s personal seal of our eternal redemption (Romans 8:15-17, Ephesians 1:13-14).

A new creation not only shuns sin, but clothes itself in Christ-like virtue, putting on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another. Forgive one another. Above all, put on love which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule your hearts. Be grateful. Let the word of Christ dwell richly in you. And whatever you do, do it in the name of Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God. Colossians 3:5-17 (Adapted)
