Prince Of Peace

Dec 20, 2025

For unto to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 ESV

Prince of Peace. Is it possible that Isaiah, the prophet of God, saved the greatest name for last?

Names are important. God’s name is not God. That is His title. That is what He is. God wants us to know Him. So He gave us the Revealed Truth of the Bible. In His Word He reveals himself, including His actual names. God’s names are representative and consummate of His nature. Of His character. They reflect His identity. In Judges 6:24 God’s name is revealed as Yahweh Shalom (Note 1). God is the God of Peace. Hallowed be Thy name.

If God is the God of Peace, it follows that His Son, Jesus Christ, would be the Prince of Peace. In and through whom we can have the Peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). How? By accepting Christ as our Savior and Lord. As our reconciliation to the God of Creation. The Prince of Peace. Jesus. The One who provides The Way to deep abiding peace which cannot be taken away.

The greatest name? Maybe. Maybe not. But certainly the greatest gift of grace. But you will not experience it unless you accept the gift. Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Get reconciled with Yahweh today. Make the binary choice of eternal life with Christ Jesus over the choice of eternal life in the absence of shalom.

Note 1: Shalom: A state of wholeness and security embracing both the physical and spiritual dimensions and relating not only to the individual, but also to entire communities and relationships among persons (Hebrew šālôm “well-being”).
