And He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, that He might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Listen, then, O Israel. Commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Moses, Deuteronomy 8, 11
Prayer: Almighty, gracious Father, since our whole salvation depends on our true understanding of Your holy Word, grant that our hearts, freed from worldly affairs, may hear and understand Your holy Word with all diligence and faith, so that we may rightly discern Your gracious will, cherish it, and live by it with all earnestness, to Your praise and honor, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Martin Bucer (1491 – 1551)
