My Portion Forever

Oct 1, 2026

Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry. But it is good for me to draw near to God. I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all Your works. A Psalm of Asaph, Psalm 73:25–28 NKJV

God is faithful to His people and their strength and portion forever. Those who with an upright heart put their trust in God shall never be in want of reason for praise and thanksgiving to Him.

It is good to draw near to God. For Asaph, this meant coming before God in the Temple. For the Christian, Christ has opened the way into the presence of God, so that we may draw near to Him in faith and enjoy fellowship with Him throughout the daily affairs of life.

God is not merely the One from whom we seek what we need. He is our portion forever. (Note 1)

Note 1: God As Our Portion Forever: God is our inheritance, our satisfaction, and our security forever. Earthly possessions and comforts may fail or be taken from us – money, health, status, even those things most precious to us – but God remains. He is ever faithful, eternally ours, and sufficient. To have God is to possess the one treasure that can never be lost.
