“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8
The mind is a battlefield:
- We are engaged in a war.
- Our enemy is Satan.
- The battlefield is the mind.
- The devil works diligently to set up strongholds in our mind.
- He does it through strategy and deceit; through well laid plans.
- He is in no hurry. He takes his time to work out his plan.
To avoid being (the feeling of being) overwhelmed on the battlefield, get in the habit of frisking everything that enters your mind through the Philippians 4:8 filter. Is it true? Noble? Right? Pure? Lovely? Admirable? Excellent? Praiseworthy? If it fails any one of these tests, do not let it in. IF IT FAILS ANY ONE OF THESE TESTS, DO NOT LET IT IN.
As to the truth filter, we should always turn first to the Word of God to discern truth. Proverbs 30:5 says that every word of God is flawless/true. His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. When we know God’s Word, we can more easily discern Truth. Trust His word, fill your head and heart with worship. Don’t give the enemy a seat at your table.
“If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the Truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32. ESV
