In the Boston Museum Of Fine Arts hangs a painting by Paul Gauguin. Gauguin considered the frieze-like canvas the finest achievement of his career.

In the upper left hand corner of the painting, Gauguin inscribed the words: “D’où Venons Nous / Que Sommes Nous / Où Allons Nous.” Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?

1. Where Do We Come From? (What is man?) Man is someone made in the image of God. (Note 1)
2. What Are We? (What is my purpose?) Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever. (Note 2)
3. Where Are We Going? (What happens when we die?) If you believe in Jesus, He will forgive you of your sin and He promises that one day you will be with Him in glory. (Note 3)
