Do you remember playing hide and seek as a child? Running to find the perfect place to hide, and then waiting and waiting to be found. Or you were the seeker searching for your friends. Either way, the child’s game of hide and seek could seem lonely.
Life can be like that. We erect ways and places to hide from God. Busyness, addictions, political correctness. Or we fool ourselves that we are actually the seeker by doing good works or thinking that the Gospel of Jesus is all sunshine and roses. This game of hide and seek stinks.
Observing the Sabbath can be a game-changer in a life time of spiritual hide and seek. Come out of the hiding places of our own creation, and wholeheartedly seek Jesus and the God of the universe who created you. He is not hiding. He waits in the open for us to find Him. So this Sabbath, be still. Open your eyes and ears and heart – He will be found! He is ‘hiding’ in the open.
Shabbat Shalom
