Here is the thing. This is not the post that was scheduled for today. The post that was scheduled for today was about love. Important enough. Profound even. But that is not the story for today.
The story today is about Truth and Evil.
The World is in meltdown. Facts in evidence can be seen in every organized society in the free world and beyond. The failure of the institutions of self-government, of the academy, of the scientific and medical communities, of legacy and social media. In relations between nations. In the absurdity of gender confusion and personal pronouns. In abortion. In the Criminal response to COVID.
I have good news and bad news. The bad news is of the chaos there is no end. Evil is afoot. And among other ways, it presents itself in the entropy of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The Law states that all of creation, left to its own devices (i.e. without some intervention), decomposes over time into ever increasing entropy and decay. If you still don’t get it, the Law of Thermodynamics is built into the created order. Entropy is a feature, not a bug. Unless opposed, the created order moves inexorably and inevitably to the complete decay of anarchy. There is no standing still or holding your own.
Now if you believe that man climbed up out of the primordial soup, please, I beg you, read no further. Such a worldview is akin to believing that a Boeing 747 resulted from a tornado going through a junkyard (Note 1). I implore you to move on. If on the other hand you believe there just might be a solution. That there must be some reason or purpose to it all, hang around. There is. And it is as simple as it is obvious.
If we are a thinking people, we wonder where it might all end. We hope against hope that this next thing is obviously as bad as it can possibly get. We take encouragement from the election of a common-sense Prime Minister in Italy. And then the new common-sense Prime Minister of England is deposed. China’s CCP rumbles against Taiwan and the USA. The American experiment fails. Chaos and totalitarianism loom everywhere. We struggle to make sense of it all. Where might it end? The truth is we have no idea.
Little recognized, and even less acknowledged, one of the primary results of the Enlightenment has been the elevation of government as god. Got a problem? Berlin or Brussels or Washington have the solution. Or Davos. The almost complete excise of the principles of God’s Kingdom in favor of being our own god. Of government as god. This is a theory from the pit of Hell. The truth is quite simple. In man’s fallen state the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties, but through every human heart (Note 2). So man-made government inevitably becomes a whirling dervish in the downward spiral of decay to the thermodynamic drain.
This is what happens when, through either ignorance or pride, we ignore the lessons of history. When we are seduced by the belief that we are obviously smarter than those neanderthals who came before us. That we can be our own god.
The good news is almost absurdly obvious. Here it is plagiarized from God as originally given to Moses: “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life.” Deuteronomy 30:19
Until we restore God to His rightful place in our individual lives, and in our churches, communities, and societies, the chaos and entropy will continue to accelerate. The end is not presently imaginable.
Stay tuned.
