God is.

Faithfulness is an attribute of God, an essential part of who He is. God does not have to work at being faithful, He is faithful: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never end. Great is His faithfulness; His loving-kindness begins afresh each day.” Lamentations 3:22-23

Faithfulness is a foundational theme throughout both the Old and New Testaments, culminating in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. In John’s account of the end times’ Tribulation judgment, Jesus is given the title Faithful and True: “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.” Revelation 19:11 ESV

In His letter to the Church in Smyrna, Jesus tells us that eternity in heaven awaits those who are faithful: “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10 ESV

It is fitting that the title of Faithful and True is given to Jesus. Faithfulness is a gift from God, part of the Fruit of the Spirit. The application in the life of a Christian is that we are called to be faithful. Until, in the end, we hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23

Be faithful and true, as He is faithful and true.
