Be Holy

Mar 17, 2024

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16 ESV

We know that God, and only God, is truly holy. He is without fault, and uncompromisingly just. God cannot lie, nor can He make wrong decisions. He is blameless, timeless, and sinless. As humble and fallen sinners, it is incomprehensible to consider ever being holy as God is holy. God, who is omnipotent and omniscient, knows this. Thusly, He has given us the redemption of Jesus Chris for those times we slip and fall: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV

God desires us to be holy as He is holy. He calls us to strive for holiness: “The Lord has told us what is good; walk in humble fellowship with God and live in steadfast righteousnesses and love toward others.” Micah 6:8 (Adapted)

He expects us to cultivate a lifestyle of holiness, becoming increasingly holy on a journey that began when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We become holy in relationship with Christ, and increase in holiness as we mature spiritually. Our final attainment of holiness is in the kingdom to come. As Christians, we have a significant obligation to represent God with absolute clarity and fullness. We are called to holiness. “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14 ESV

On this God ordained day of rest find yourself in church. Sabbath worship is one step in our obedience in the pursuit to be holy, as He is holy.
