The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
Modeh Ani (“I give thanks”) is a prayer of gratitude that observant Jews recite daily upon waking, while still in bed. The prayer goes thusly: I thank You, living and eternal King, for returning my soul within me in compassion; great is Your faithfulness.
Observant Christians can do well to follow this model. Let our first conscious moments of the day be spent thanking God for the gift of life and for the fresh slate. It doesn’t matter what we may have done yesterday. God’s mercies and blessings are fresh each day.
The application: Start the day with an attitude of gratitude. Thank God for his compassion and faithfulness. View each new day as a brand new opportunity to walk with God in Purpose. God is for us. Let’s not let Him down.
