The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
Psalm 23:1-4 ESV
The comparison may not sit well with some, but people aren’t so different from sheep. We need to rest and be refreshed. Our souls suffer from the stress of day-to-day life. Instead of living according to God’s righteousness, we often get mired down in worldly thought and veer off course. We encounter discouraging times that are “normal” life storms (health, financial, relational, seasons of unbelief, and more), some even self-inflicted.
Fear not. Jesus assures us “I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 10, John 16.
