Shabbat Shalom

Jul 18, 2026

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And God looked over all He had made, and He saw that it was very good! So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from all His work of creation. Genesis 1:1, 1:31-2:3 NLT

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day He rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. The 4th Commandment, Exodus 20:8-11 NLT

And on the seventh day God rested from His work and set the day apart as holy. Some argue that the New Covenant in Christ renders the entire Mosaic Covenant and its Law obsolete. And in one sense this is true. Yet the moral heart of that Law, now written not on tablets of stone but on hearts of flesh by the Holy Spirit, still call God’s people to holiness.

At What Now 2 Do we have celebrated the Sabbath, but only in a humanly convenient way. Often in the breach. Whether one believes setting the Sabbath apart arises from Creation or from the Mosaic Covenant, this has, to us, felt more and more unsatisfactory. Out of God’s will even. Incompatible with bringing honor and glory to God.

A recent read of the Charlie Kirk book ‘Stop, In The Name Of God’ sealed it. Our heart’s desire is to obey the 4th Commandment as we obey the other 9. To send it up as a sweet aroma to our God.

We follow in the track of many others, both Jew and Gentile. We are going to celebrate our Sabbath on Sundays (sundown Saturday to sundown Sunday).

Why are we telling you this? Two reasons. First, it will mean that there will no longer be a post at What Now 2 Do on Sundays. Six posts a week; we will rest from our ordinary work on the Sabbath. The second reason we tell you is in the hope you will follow us into a God-honoring Sabbath. You can have no idea the impact such obedience will have.

Shabbat Shalom.
