If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:8–10, Adapted
Prayer: Almighty and merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the desires of our own hearts. We have flouted Your holy laws. We have left undone things which we ought to have done, and done things which we ought not to have done. Left to our own devices, we are spiritually bankrupt. But You, O Lord, have mercy upon us miserable offenders. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore those who are repentant, according to Your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And for His sake grant that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Adapted, Book of Common Prayer (1552)
